All Game of Thrones season 4 SPOILERS

On  the 9th of June 2013 another season of HBO's "Game of Thrones" came to it's conclusion. 

This season effectively covered half of the third book in the "A Song of Ice and Fire" saga titled "A Storm of Swords". 

Therefore the fourth season will cover the other half. 

The third book is in my opinion a book that is characterized by big transitions. We have major shifts in power and also many characters either find a gruesome demise or their lives change completely in ways they could not imagine. 

However I have to admit that this sounds rather vague, and as a result I am willing to offer some clarifications (or spoilers) because I don't wish the viewers to live in agony up until the next season....

Nah! The reason is that I am a prick with a small blackened heart, like frozen pizza that has been forgotten in the oven after a night of excessive drinking. 

And also because I dislike all the lazy bums who do not read the books. 

It simply eludes me how someone, can wait an entire year for ten episodes only. 
Well OK its probably due to lack of imagination, mental capacity and willingness to read.

Anyway enough with the boring introductions! 
We have a whole season to spoil so it is best that we start immediately!

Last season was unarguably dominated by House Lannister. 

They effectively wiped out most of their enemies and the alliance with the Tyrells, further cemented their position as the House Controlling the realm of Westeros. 

Yet still when the God of Fate who delights in anarchy and fiascos (Martin) is in the mood everything can be turned upside down. 

The first and most important event that signifies that the shit will hit the fan for House Lannister is the coming of Oberyn Martell, also known as the Red Viper. 

Oberyn is the youngest brother of princess Ellia Martell, who was wed to prince Rhaegar Targaryen, the son of the Mad King. 

Ellia died at the conclusion of Robert's Rebellion along with her children (major upcoming spoiler coming here regarding the fate of one of her children). 

The ones that commited the deed were Gregor Clegane and Amory Lorch. Gregor specifically murdered the prince's son, Aegon (he is not dead, Varys switched him with another baby and he appears later on in the novels. Suck it lazy bums!), and after that he proceeded to rape and kill Ellia. 


This act gained House Lannister the hatred of House Martell, a bitter hatred fueling the desire for revenge. Thus when the event of the year is announced, the marriage of King Joffrey, Oberyn finds the opportunity to travel to King's Landing and seek his revenge.

The opportunity arises rather quickly when during the wedding feast, Joffrey drinks wine that was poisoned, a scheme organized by Olenna Redwyne (that adorable old lady) and Littlefinger. 

They do so by placing Small poisonous crystals in a hairnet worn by Sansa and during the feast Olenna offers to fix Sansa's hair therefore smuggling the crystals and placing them in the cup of Joffrey. 

Joffrey chokes to death but in his last moment the annoying douche bag points at Tyrion. 

As a result Tyrion is arrested and placed under custody awaiting his trial. 


Eventually realising that he wont prove his innocence he demands trial by combat and informs Oberyn that Gregor was responsible for the death of Ellia. 

Oberyn accepts and fights Gregor in one of the most epic duels in a fantasy novel, slowly crippling Gregor via the use of his poisoned spear. 

Alas the Viper lets his guard down while trying to make Gregor confess and as a result Gregor kills him by smashing his face in, but not before he confessed the murder of Ellia.
