I found Sugar Man

I am talking about a documentary.

The documentary is called searching for sugar man. It's a very mysterious movie a friend of mine suggested to me.

But let me just stop you here. If you haven't seen the documentary you should probably go ahead and see the documentary first and then come back and read the article.

That is one of the two albums Rodriguez ever released.

Yes the name of the artist is Rodriguez.

Sugar man is just one of his songs.

So let me just go on ahead and say this is probably one of the best music documentaries. Why?

Well first off, the documentary gave me an amazing chance. To get to know this amazing musician.

I have to be honest. What Spyros told me when he suggested the movie was "Just see it!". He rarely gets music stuff related wrong. So I had to see the movie and I had to see it fast.

So I start watching the movie. The documentary is very mysterious. It says about a guy who was playing music in Detroit back in the '70s. He was truly amazing. So they offered him an album deal.

Rodriguez writes an amazing album called cold fact and the album is being published. It sold about 6 copies. Across the U.S. Needles to say that was really hard for him.

Nonetheless he made another album. That went shit too. So the guy goes on stage and sets himself on fire. What a tragic ending right?

Then the documentary takes us to South Africa.

In the Apartheid era.

Tough times. Yet there was quite a dictatorship and it was hard getting to know about the world. The legend has it that a Rodriguez album came out with a tourist.

And then hell broke loose. For a reason we do not know, Rodriguez became a music legend across the whole of South Africa. People worshiped his songs. Across the world though none knew him.

Rodriguez was someone that was working in construction and was pretty much homeless in Detroit and in South Africa he was considered a hero because of his extraordinary lyrics.

Thing is that people were wondering who Rodriguez was. And how he died. Did he really set himself on fire or did he blow off his mind in a really bad gig he was performing to?

None knew. Especially the people who care. The South Africans. So there were some people trying to track Rodriguez in the U.S. and get to know more about him. Who Rodriguez was and how did he die.

Guess what. The guy is alive!

Needles to say that when people in South Africa found out he was alive, they had to see him. So in 1998 they organised a tour or Rodriguez in South Africa. People were suspicious because they thought he was dead.

So Rodriguez lived his whole life working in construction. A truly humble man living in Detroit. A working class hero. Even when he entered the stadium with 20.000 people screaming like crazy about him he remained calm.

That guy is weird. But he is also another thing. An inspiration for all us. He teaches us that simple stuff actually matter. Even when he became a superstar he remained humble.

Perhaps we should learn from him. A lot. Now if you still haven't seen the movie please go ahead and do it now. Until then I'll be putting on repeat the OST.

P.S. I actually thought in the beginning of the movie that Rodriguez was like a persona Bob Dylan had.

The resemblance in the lyrics part was that big. I really thought that was going to be the plot twist. To be honest after 5-10 minutes they show a picture so you realise it. But until then, don't feel like a fool if you think of that.

Unfortunately I  found out that malik bendjelloul the director of "Searching for Sugar Man" was found dead  was found dead on may 14th 2014. Only two weeks after this article was released. May he rest in Peace.
